Daddy Taught Me How to Pray

I got a sting-ray bike one year,
It was Christmas Day.
Scared to ride, Daddy ran beside me,
first time I skinned my knee.
He taught me how to raise the seat, fix a flat, adjust the chain.
But the most important thing of all,
Is he taught me how to pray.

Chorus:

He never ran for President,
but he knows the King of Kings.
He don't arrive in a limosine,
just a good old Chevrolet.
But late at night, down by my bed,
Well he taught me what to say.
I thank God, Daddy taught me how to pray.

Gave my heart to Jesus, 'bout six months ago,
Through all those years, a million tears,
The guilty thing, I once knew the Lord.
Late one night at the end of the line,
It all came back to me.
The most important thing of all,
I remembered how to pray.

Chorus:

He never ran for President,
but he knows the King of Kings.
He don't arrive in a limosine,
just a good old Chevrolet.
But late at night, down by my bed,
Well he taught me what to say.
I thank God, Daddy taught me how to pray.

Now I lay me down to sleep was the first prayer that I learned.
Then he taught me how to praise His name and to stand upon God's word.
He said, "Jesus is the only way for a man in our modern day,"
I thank God, Daddy taught me how to pray.
Yes, I thank God, my Daddy taught me how to pray
